Lymphedema Monitoring & Treatment

Lymphedema is swelling caused by an excess of lymph fluid and is common after breast surgery. Prior to surgery, Dr. Schwaab sends all of his patients to be evaluated by a Certified Lymphedema Therapist who uses state of the art L-Dex technology to provide a pre-surgical baseline assessment for lymphedema. The same technology is used to monitor for lymphedema in the postoperative period so therapy can be initiated if needed.

Patient Experience

Joyce Foss, Stoughton

A breast cancer diagnosis is scary, so when you find a surgeon you can trust, it makes things a bit easier. Everything Joyce had heard about Dr. Aaron Schwaab was positive; he was a top-notch surgeon. Joined by her husband and oncology nurse daughter at her first appointment, Joyce was impressed. “I felt like I was the only person in the room, he talked directly to me. I felt very comfortable with him because he was both kind and confident. Dr. Schwaab made sure I understood exactly what to expect with the breast care program.”

Joyce’s oncology nurse daughter was also impressed with Dr. Schwaab’s thoroughness and was also very confident in Dr. Schwaab.

Joyce had two surgeries with Dr. Schwaab. She shared, “the care at Stoughton Hospital was wonderful all the way around.”

Joyce is one-year post surgery and doing very well. Most recently, Dr. Schwaab has sent Joyce to occupational therapy to work on reducing some of the painful scar tissue left from surgery.

“I feel very lucky to have had Dr. Schwaab as my surgeon,” states Joyce.
